Water Features

Water features add a lot of value to the landscape. The sound of water, light shimmering off the surface of the water, fish frolicking and water plants swaying are all examples of the treats of sensation that a water feature can bring to the outdoor experience. The sound of running water can help drown out unwanted noise nearby. We can install naturalistic mountain waterfalls and streams to serene formal mirror pools and fountains.

All our water features are custom one of a kind creations. This one is faced with real stone and has valves to adjust the flow of water out of the pour overs. By adjusting the flow you change the visual effect of the water as well as the sound. Landscape lighting doubles the value of any landscape. The landscape can be enjoyed during the day or night. Here a great photo of the dynamic effect of low voltage lighting in a water feature. Not only does the lighting illuminate the sheets of water, but the light dances across the top of the reservoir portion throwing this spectacle all over the walls and landscape around it. This large naturalistic water feature is constructed with three half horsepower pumps and three skimmer boxes to create a good ecological balance throughout both sides of its pond. Good design is essential to pond health and sustainability. A consideration often missed by many contractors. This larger water feature has underwater lights that create a kinetic lightshow on the stucco behind it. A relaxing environment regardless who your company is. It also has an auto fill, and coy fish. Notice the candle windows, another finishing touch conjured up by one of our designers.
A 20' river leads to this 4' waterfall which is the focal point of this upper patio and can be seen as soon as you open the front door of the house. On all of our rivers and ponds we install a check valve so our client can control the flow of water depending on what type of sound is desired—a rushing stream or a trickling brook. Underwater lights illuminate the plants, fish and water at night for a truly magical experience. Small water features used in the right places can be amazing. These smaller waterfeatures tucked close by a patio or walkway can be a nice focal point and create soothing sounds that fill the area with calmness and serenity. This triple pour over water feature is not only the focal point of the small secondary patio, but can be seen throughout the first floor as well as viewed from the front door.
Smaller water features can be integrated into the landscape to become much more than just a free standing feature. Many of these water features can be installed with lighting to make a kinetic lightshow and even auto fills to refill the features as needed from your irrigation system. This large naturalistic water feature is constructed with three half horsepower pumps and three skimmer boxes to create a good ecological balance throughout both sides of its pond. Prefabricated water features come in all shapes and sizes. This more formal water feature is just a few feet away from a flagstone patio that really puts the finishing touch on this historic Congress Park home. Water gardening can be beautiful and enjoyable weather you have a pond, river, free standing water feature, or water fountain. Look at the beauty of this water lily. It opens and closes every day and night. Privacy is created in this courtyard by the large custom water feature. Not only does it screen out the neighbors, but it is a beautiful focal point for the patio as well as the adjoining room. Seat walls make this space feel more like a room and lighting allows the space to be enjoyed late into the evening. Large pots are filled with annuals every year to create a burst of color.
On this project there was very little grade change so we bermed one area and placed large boulders to achieve the desired effect. This five piece Basalt Column water feature makes a tranquil trickling noise. Double French doors allow the sound to make its way into the dinning room and the rest of the house. When a water feature is designed properly, night time can be a whole different experience. This is a shot taken of the same water feature as above, but at night in the winter, and taken from inside our clients' home. Mile High also installed a 12' wide window house to fully capture the beauty of this project.
This triple pour over water feature is actually a portion of the wall that we have transformed into this beautiful focal point. The reservoir around the bottom doubles as a seat making this entire living area very functional and social. This smaller milled stone water feature is a beautiful welcome home to our clients as they walk by on the way to their front door. The reservoir is made of poured concrete and creates a deeper sound as the trickling noise reverberates off the foundation walls. Plants close to the water feature help finish off this area of the landscape. This small pot style water feature is a great focal point from the dining area and has a beautiful, tranquil sound, adding to the conversation at the table, not overpowering it. An auto fill connected to the irrigation system keeps the water feature full and is low maintenance.
This water feature has a very clean look and screens out the close by neighbors. Screening can be done in a number of ways to create privacy and add to the feeling of being in an outdoor room rather than just a patio. Glass tile used in this project is the same as the back splash in the kitchen, pulling the inside out and adding the congruity of the home and landscape. Water features come in many shapes and sizes. This stone water feature has 3 polished sides and 3 rough. A gentle dripping sound can be enjoyed throughout the house as well as the nearby patio. Here a small water feature is the right scale for a smaller backyard project. Although the water feature is small, it emits a great sound. We were actually able to put a small light inside to create a great visual effect at night.
Earth, Air, Water and Fire, the four elements of landscape. Here illustrated by the patio, the spaces created the water feature and the fire pit. Beach pebbles are used to soften the patio areas and extend the concept of water. This natural stone water feature has an auto fill that fills the reservoir as water evaporates. Water features can be customized to fit your style and integrated many ways into the landscape. This client found an old gate that he liked, so we cleaned it up and designed the water feature around it. Underwater lights provide for a beautiful lightshow seen throughout the kitchen and great room. Over 65 tons of boulders and backfill were used to raise the grade and create this beautiful naturalistic water feature in Parker. The pond was excavated so that the existing deck actually hung over the pond. That area was dug a bit deeper so the fish were more apt to come near the deck for ease of feeding and additional entertainment. Underwater lights make this waterfeature magical at night.
A hot tub may be the most relaxing water feature there is. Here a four person hot tub is the main attraction of this retreat. A flagstone patio, seat walls, arbor, lighting and plant material make this area cozy and soothing. In this Denver landscape we poured the smaller lower wall to match the existing planter wall. An 8" cut was made in the existing wall to allow for the pour over in the upper reservoir. Two reservoirs were made from stainless steel to make this water feature. The lower one is 4'x8'. The effect is a very modern look with reflections coming off the surface of the water. This water feature creates a clean, crisp sound due to the smooth finish of the pour over. Lights are integrated throughout the landscape and in the reservoirs. We can't wait to see it next year with trees and plants! A close up of the waterfeature to the left shows how crisp and clean the flow is. The sound it creates is also very crisp and clean, perfect for this small courtyard with lots of hard, reverberating surfaces. The sound of the waterfeature is an important detail to be considered in when designing and installing a waterfeature. The back wall and the crack in it were already existing. By saw cutting down at this point we actually released some of the pressure creating this crack.
