A perfect example of outdoor living here in Denver. This project includes all the elements in a dream landscape: fireplace, outdoor kitchen, water features, lighting, and plenty of living space. The entire backyard was enclosed for privacy with a masonry wall with accent pillars. The outdoor kitchen incorporates a raised, bar height area where friends and family can gather round and keep the host company while entertaining. This kitchen features a Viking cook top, warming drawer, sink, and storage areas. The large fire place is a great focal point for the living area portion of this project. A large pergola adds enclosure and makes this space feel much more like a room. Finally one large and one small water feature soothe any left over stress and fatigue of our busy lives. Enjoyable living at its finest. Decorative concrete has come a long way and is used in many shapes and forms. In this concrete fire pit we worked small pieces of black glass into the top of the concrete as it was drying and ground the surface later to expose the glass. Now when lit, the fire sparkles off the glass in the top of the fire pit. This Washington Park Courtyard is a great example of an outdoor living space. We have outfitted this project with a Viking gas cook top, a service bar adjoining the outdoor kitchen, a gas driven fire pit with an architectural seat wall wrapping around it, an arbor, and a four station remote control lighting system.
Outdoor living with all the creature comforts. This area is almost a room in itself. Close to 400 square feet of living space was created by using cinder block walls, stucco and stone. The pillars and walls help make the space more of a room than just a patio. The water feature is the focal point of the space but can be seen from the great room as well. The wood pergola adds a sense of enclosure and the nearby grill is easy to access allowing the cook to be close to their guests. Low voltage lighting and integrated audio system make this outdoor space a great place to unwind and enjoy the best of outdoor living here in Denver! Over 65 tons of boulders were used to retain the steep slope in this Centennial backyard. The 4' waterfall is the focal point of this upper patio and can be seen as soon as you open the front door of the house. All of our landscape projects involve a high level of detail in every aspect of the job. This particular picture is a great representation of these details. An arch was incorporated into the wall of this project to display the statue symbolic to our clients' Italian heritage. A double gate was custom made with wood and inlaid with iron work mimicking grape vines to further this Mediterranean feel. Finally, the same ironwork was used as a light gauge railing to keep an open feeling in the backyard.
Landscape lighting doubles the value of any landscape. The landscape can be enjoyed during the day or night. Here a great photo of the dynamic effect of low voltage lighting in a water feature. Not only does the lighting illuminate the sheets of water, but the light dances across the top of the reservoir portion throwing this spectacle all over the walls and landscape around it. This fireplace is a beautiful focal point for the deck and can be seen from the kitchen and living room. In addition, the fireplace and flagstone seat help define this space and make it much more intimate and cozy. The gazebo on the hill is a retreat from the house that has a great view of the sunset overlooking the front range. We install projects large and small. These strip stone walls serve as a beautiful architectural element in addition to retaining the steep grade.
This boulder serves as the backdrop of the second patio in this landscape is over 7' tall by 6' wide and weighs as much as a small car. A much more interesting way to retain the change in grade. Gas drives this architectural fire pit and seating area. Gas fire pits are aesthetic and soothing as well as take the chill off spring and fall nights. This water feature has a very clean look and screens out the close by neighbors. Screening can be done in a number of ways to create privacy and add to the feeling of being in an outdoor room rather than just a patio. Glass tile used in this project is the same as the back splash in the kitchen, pulling the inside out and adding the congruity of the home and landscape.
This free standing fireplace can burn gas or wood and makes a beautiful focal point for the main patio. The best landscapes incorporate the four aspects of landscape: earth, wind, fire, and water. Consequently, these aspects soothe the senses and give us relief from our daily stresses. We believe that the landscape should reflect the architecture of the home. This formal courtyard is an excellent compliment to the early 1900's Highlands bungalow.
Since the beginning of time humans have gathered around the fire to eat, drink, and socialize. There is no better way to enjoy this past time than to gather around an outdoor kitchen with some of your friends and family. Sometimes you get a surprise visitor, further enhancing your experience and relaxation. Even this butterfly was enchanted enough by our clients' landscape that it had to take a closer look. Patios and areas slightly distanced from the home can help in giving a few degrees of separation from the stresses of our daily lives.
Good design integrates the landscape with the home. This water feature is a great example of this integration. It is over 90' long and wraps from the front door all the way to the back billiard room. The soothing sound can be heard in over half the large ranch. Privacy is created in this courtyard by the large custom water feature. Not only does it screen out the neighbors, but it is a beautiful focal point for both the patio as well as the adjoining room. Seat walls make this space feel more like a room and lighting allows the courtyard to be enjoyed late into the evening. Large pots are filled with annuals every year to create a burst of color. Colorado has over 300 days of sun a year, what a better way to enjoy them then by cooking outside. Outdoor kitchens are great to enjoy as well as add value to your home.
A great addition to any landscape is the addition of running water. A water feature can help drown out unwanted noise as well as give the client the crisp and refreshing sound of running water. Our designers utilize many different types of plants to create year round interest and color. Visit our new These patios serve as two completely different living areas. Both are in the front of the house. One is fully covered, but you can see the sun set. The other is open, but has a water feature screening the street and mature trees providing afternoon shade. Combined, allow you to enjoy the landscape rain or shine.
Tumbled pillars and real rock tile were selected in this project to compliment the Tuscan style of the home. The transformation was dramatic and can also be enjoyed from the inside of the house through the windows. These clients' loved the mountains, and wanted to bring a little of into their backyard, so we used 8 tons of boulders to create this naturalistic fire pit and two benches. What a great place to gather and tell adventure stories! A large pour in place concrete fire place is the unique focal point in this project. We utilized concrete ties to add an architectural element to the feature. A large scale arbor encloses the space and helps break the hot afternoon sun. A combination of low voltage lighting and full line voltage fixtures create a dramatic effect at night. An overhead fan adds airflow and comfort for those hot midsummer days and nights. Acid finished concrete floor anchors the space and adds color. A concrete kitchen is out of this picture to the right. We can't wait to see this space with plants next spring!
